Nikki is one of my mentoring girls from last year. She emailed me wanting to get into photography so we spent a day of mentoring, shooting, and getting to know each other! She has the sweetest heart and is so motivated to begin her photography career and for that, I just love her! She recently sent me a message explaining her dad has been diagnosed with cancer; a tumor on his brain. They hadn’t had family photo’s and with the upcoming treatments to attack the cancer in his body of chemo and radiation, she wanted to make sure she could freeze this moment in time for her family. Like I said, she has the sweetest heart! She’s a daddy’s girl through and through and you could just tell by the way she looked at her dad throughout the evening. The initial plan was to get family photo’s before any kind of chemo or radiation, but with hectic schedules, we had to do them the same week of his treatments. He was a little off due to them and Nikki helped her dad everywhere he needed to be since he was having a little double vision and was off balance. At one point, while he was sitting next to his daughter, just the two of them in front of my camera, I had Nikki wrap her arms around him and kiss him on the cheek… and he began to cry. If you know me at all, you know I cry immediately when others cry because I just feel everything. But I really tried as hard as I could to not get emotional since this family is going through enough. I shot through the tears and some of these images are so powerful to me because you can see the tears in Nikki’s dad’s eyes. The love this whole family felt for each other was so real and I just so honored and blessed to have been the one chosen to capture these for them. Thank you guys so much for allowing me to be a part of your story. Prayers for a lifetime of health and happiness and for these treatments to cure and heal your dad, and solace in-between the tough moments. xo!
