I can barely believe the words “We’re Hiring” are even coming out of my mouth ya’ll! I’ve been searching for years (literally years) for the perfect assistant/second shooter to join Jami Thompson Photography and just as I found the perfect fit and brought someone on full time this year, she came to me to let me know her husband got a new job in California and they’re moving in the next month! My heart hurts at the thought of losing Celia for this wedding season and all the seasons to come for JTP but I know its whats best for her family to be back in San Diego and so I have to search for a new assistant/second shooter to join me! :) I’m really excited to find the perfect fit!!

JTP has been around for almost four and a half years. What started as an idea to have some fun on the side while I continued to work my corporate job as an Account Executive, quickly became a serious passion and dream and within months of that fire igniting, I was able to quit my full time corporate job to become a full time photographer! It’s been an amazing ride and now its time to bring someone along for the fun!

Please know that I will never be that photographer that shoots 20+ weddings per year. I believe in quality over quantity and I also really value my family time on the weekends, therefore I only take 10-15 weddings per year based on availability and how well the couple and I click with each other. I will never accept a wedding just to add one to my books for the year. The way I crave that connection between me and my couple is the way I crave a connection with my assistant/second shooter!

I’m looking for 1-2 people to join my team that will honor the JTP reputation I’ve worked so hard for over the past 4.5 years and honestly, someone who is just the perfect fit! This position will be paid hourly and that rate will be based on your level of experience.

JTP assistant/second shooter responsibilities:

– Be able to shoot 8 hour wedding days with your own transportation to and from the wedding. Some weddings can be a bit of a drive and you have to be okay with that! :)

-Self sufficient and confident in shooting on your own as well as setting up lighting gear on your own. I like to divide and conquer during the day!

-Able to take direction and roll with whatever happens on a wedding day!

-Carry my bags throughout the wedding day.

-Comfortable shooting at low apertures.

-Shoot on my CF cards and hand them all over at the end of the night.

-Be my voice during family formals. I’ll be shooting and its very important to me to have someone who can loudly and directly call out names as I need it

so we can quickly get through family formals which in turn, allows for more portrait time with the bride and groom. This one is a must.

-Willing to commit and not cancel last minute!!

Requirements for equipment:

-Full frame DSLR; Canon Mark II or Mark III preferred but Nikon’s equivalent will work too!

-At least one prime lens and one zoom lens with an f/stop of 1.2 or 1.4 for the prime lens.

-Your own flash equipment. I use 600EX’s but yours doesn’t have to be.
