Dear New Photographer,

So you’re feeling defeated? Feeling like you’ll never get to where you want to be. You look at other photographers work weekly and you compare yourself to them. You say to yourself “I’ll never be where they are.” You want so badly to be where they are and to turn your dream into your reality.

I have news for you New Photographer, you can!  Starting any new business is difficult. It takes time, energy, passion, motivation, and a lot of determination.  With these things though, you most certainly can get to where you want to be, I promise!

You’re going to have to make changes to your life, changes to your business, and you’re going to have to push every single day towards making your dream your reality. You’re going to have to set goals and be determined enough to stick to them. You’re going to have bad days and you’re going to have amazingly wonderful days. You’re going to get your feelings hurt, and other times you’ll feel uplifted.  You’ll have people that don’t want to see you succeed and you’ll have people that DO want you to succeed.

New Photographer, I want you to succeed. Because I was in your shoes not too long ago. And because I know how much it hurts to feel like you’re failing. Do yourself a favor: quit comparing yourself to others. We will all go down different paths towards our own definition of success, and that’s okay. Focus on you, on making yourself better, on making your business better, and always investing in yourself and your business. Remember that it takes time. Everybody has to start somewhere, everyone was once ‘new’ at their trade. Nobody is a pro over night.

I believe in you, New Photographer. So if you’re feeling defeated today, get back up. Fight to make your dream your reality.  Push to get better. Strive to build the business of your dreams. If you have it in your heart that this is what you want to do, do it.

I know you can do it.
