2013 was such an amazing year for Jami Thompson Photography! I am so excited that this dream of mine finally came to fruition and has started blossoming into something that I hope will continue to grow and prosper over this next year.  I’m still not ready to settle however! I want to keep pushing, moving, building, etc.!  I’ll never be done building this business into what I want it to be!

When I first started photography, I had to jump so many hurdles.  I had to deal with learning something totally new on a professional level instead of as a hobbyist.  I had to learn how to turn my passion and dream into a business — being able to provide for my family with a camera in my hand. I had to learn all about taxes as a small business owner, business insurance, the cost of equipment versus my costs for a session/wedding…the list goes on!  I am still learning every single day, and I believe I will continue to learn every day being in this industry.  There’s so much to photography and it’s certainly an ever-changing industry (something I love about it).  As a result of trial & error in the last year, having heartache by starting over on so many things, trying to learn my style, and my place in this industry, I have decided that I want to try to make it easier for new photographers.  It wasn’t easy for me in the beginning, but that doesn’t mean that you too have to struggle.  One of the biggest changes I am adding to 2014 is to start offering ‘Guiding Sessions’ for new photographers.

After an enlightening experience with another photographer in Hampton Roads, I’ve decided to start offering ‘guiding sessions’ for new photographers.  When I first started in this industry, NOBODY wanted to help me! Not even offer a little friendly advice. Actually, there weren’t many friendly photographers at all. I can count on less than one hand all of the photographers that wished me well and offered their support to me. I never want to be that person or that photographer.

If you’re new to photography and need a little guidance, help, etc., I’d be glad to help you out! These sessions are $150 for 2 hours of my time and we can go over anything and everything your little heart desires, including shooting time together so you can get some new head shots for that growing business of yours! If I don’t know the answer to something, I’ll do my best to get you the answer!  We should truly be focusing on how to build each other up in this industry, not tear each other down.  To read about my enlightening moment, click here!
